Customer Reviews

We purchased two of these Safety 1st Comfy Carry Elite Plus car seats for our twins. Two weeks before our twins were to arrive, we installed them in our van. What we found was that the head part of the seat lifts off of the base while the foot part stays securely attached. Both car seats have rear BASE attachment buttons (as they are called in the manual). Finding this odd, I read the manual again. In the manual it claims to have rear BASE attachment HOLES. On both of our bases these HOLES do not exsist. I called the Dorel company and they said that yes that is how they made these car seats and bases and that it is safe. They also said that the rear BASE attachment buttons are for use in the Safety 1st stroller. I informed them that their manual is very misleading and was told they'd make a note of it. Besides that, you can not use this car seat in the seating area or across the top of a shopping cart because it does not have a feature to lock it on. The Graco we had for our 2 1/2 year old we could because it was able to lock on to the shopping cart seat area. One other down fall we noticed was that with a winter car seat cover over the top of the seat, you are unable to secure the seat to the base. You have to take off the foot part of the cover in order to secure the seat to the base, what a pain. Needless to say, we returned these car seats.

I like this infant seat better than my Designer 22 model purchased 3 years ago.
These are the reasons I puchased it after seeing a model in the store: huge discount at Amazon, it's only 6 1/2 pounds (2 pounds lighter than my previous seat), it has an up front harness adjustment, the canopy has a velcro attachment at the head of the seat so the material doesn't flap around when folded back, the infant insert has velcro for quick removal, the harness straps are easily and quickly adjustable through the back of the seat by using a metal "splitter plate" (metal hooks holding the harness straps which you can unhook and re-hook once the straps are rethread), has a regular "dual plate" buckle instead of the "puzzle" buckle, and attached to the base it is 2 inches narrower than my previous seat (car seat itself is about 1 inch narrower) which is important since this seat will be right next to a standard size convertible car seat. Also, I was pleasantly surprised that the color of the seat is actually brown but in the stock photos it appears gray.
One thing I noticed that seemed cheaper is that the base only has one height adjustment which consists of a red block under the base fliping out and locking into place adding 2 1/2 inchs of height at the foot area. Safety 1st calls the block a recline foot. My previous Designer 22 adjustable base had 3 different heights to choose from. I didn't need the recline foot in order for my car seat to be level to the ground so this wasn't an issue for me.
This car seat isn't compatible with my old stroller which came with the Designer 22 infant seat. According to Safety 1st the new strollers compatible with the Comfy Carry infant seats currently are: CV146 Saunter Stroller, CV204 3-Ease or the CV140 Clic! Universal.
Overall, I would recommend this car seat as it is light and easy to adjust. I gave it 4 stars for the seemingly cheaper recline foot and that Safety 1st decided to not make this seat compatible with previously designed strollers. I have an Acella Sport Travel System and the stroller looks just like the new CV204 3-Ease.
